Joint pain, whether from wounds, disease, sprains or trauma, can be very uncomfortable and can negatively affect your every day living. If they are serious it's important to see a doctor so you can receive the best form of treatment. In the meantime, it's important to known that there are a number of different things you can do yourself to help temporarily alleviate the pain. Here are a few tips that have helped some people get relief from the pain of strain on their joints.

Cold temperatures reduce blood flow and help reduce tissue swelling. If you are experiencing pain try putting an ice pack on the area every hour for about 15 minutes. Make sure you wrap the ice pack in a towel before putting it in contact with your skin so you avoid ice burns. Warm water will also help relieve pressure on joints and muscles so you could try taking a nice warm bath if your knees and hips are hurting. When you're in the water try massaging the area to help stimulate blood flow.

A professional massage is one of the best ways to temporarily relieve joint pain. If you are giving yourself a massage, for example on your knee or hip, use a topical menthol rub to help rid yourself of pain. When you are rubbing the area remember to always move your strokes toward the heart.

Some medications such as ibuprofen will help with pain relief. Some doctors may also prescribe muscle relaxants to help reduce spasms. If you want to go natural you can try some mixtures, such as herbal teams, which will help alleviate and prevent some joint pains. Some alternative medical treatments, such as acupuncture can also help relieve pain while enhancing the range of movement of your joints.

Exercise is important for everyone but if you are experiencing joint paint you have to find a program that will not cause further pain. Exercise can help increase strength and flexibility of your joints and help in the prevention of future pain.

One of the most important things to do when trying the get rid of pain or prevent it all together is to give your body the rest and relaxation it needs. Resting will restore energy and allow the body to repair itself naturally. Taking breaks in between exercise will help your body cope with the demands you're putting on it and will help prevent future joint pain.
