Most diets leave us calorie counting and focusing more on portion control than our own happiness. Following most diet plans can be difficult because we are left hungry. And when we are hungry we are more likely to cheat on our diet and, let's face it, we are just more miserable. If you can find a diet that allows you to eat normal with low-calories you are more likely to lose that weight without starving yourself. Consider these healthy food choices from that will help you find the right diet and stick to it.
Fruits and Vegetables
Eating fruits and vegetables will fill up your stomach without all the calories. The best types to eat with your meals are carrots, spinach, tomatoes, berries and apples. Avoid deep fried vegetables like french fries because they are loaded with calories. If you feel hungry after your meal go for a second helping of fruits or vegetables. The fibre and water in these foods will help fill you up without adding unnecessary calories to your waistline.
Grains
Buy whole grains such as brown rice and whole-grain pasta for your meals. When choosing snacks go for low-calorie ones such as popcorn or whole-grain crackers instead of potato chips or other fried foods.
Meat
Fish, skinless chicken breast and lean ground beef are all low in fat. Fatty foods such as bacon and brisket will cause you to grain weight because they are loaded with fat and calories. So instead of a fried chicken burger, opt for a grilled chicken salad. Both will fill you up but the latter is much lower in calories.
Water
You should never drink your calories. Water will help fill your stomach up without adding to your calorie intake. Hydration can sometimes be mistaken for hunger and therefore lead to overeating. So try to drink as much water as you can. You can add lemon or limes to it to help it taste more like a fruity drink. You can also mix in some strawberry and cucumber slices for a refreshing treat. If you enjoy alcohol try to limit yourself to one drink of wine, spritzer, light beer or shot of hard liquor mixed with club soda – all drinks that are around 100 calories. Avoid drinks like margaritas, which are loaded with hundreds of calories.
Appetizers
When you're out at a restaurant consider ordering two appetizers with a salad instead of an entree. Seafood apps like shrimp cocktail, oysters or grilled calamari are low enough in calories that you can order two along with a salad for your entire meal.
Greens
A salad will help fill you up without adding many calories, provided you don't load it up with dressing, cheese and nuts. If you need dressing on your salad get it on the side so you can control the amount you use.
Carrots
Because they are fluid-based (they help you feel full quickly) this vegetable is great at keeping weight off and for losing weight. They are also packed with vitamins and antioxidants so your skin will feel better. You can dip them in hummus for a great snack that will leave you feeling satisfied but without putting on any extra weight.
Blueberries
One cup of blueberries contains only about 80 calories and 4 grams of protein. They have a high water content and a lot of antioxidants that will make your skin glow and hold off signs of aging. With these benefits your free to eat as much as you want.
