Who came up with this name anyway? Love handles? There's not much we love about that extra flesh around the hips, which is why women tend to try everything to get rid of them. If you aren't in love with them they can really mess with your self-esteem. But, there is good news. If you want to rid yourself of the bulge around your hips there are things that can be done – you just have to be willing to work at it. Here are a few tips from allwomenstalk that can help you say goodbye to those pesky love handles once and for all.

Leg flutters

Exercise – it helps. And leg flutters are a good one to try because they make your back stronger, which can firm your stomach. Try laying down on your stomach, lift your head up, keep your arms out by your sides and bring your knees and feet up off the floor. Lift them up and down for 30 seconds and then repeat. 172601141

Try twisting crunches, which are a lot like regular crunches, but as you lift into the position you raise one knee and try to touch it with your elbow. Take your left knee to your right elbow and right knee to your left elbow. These will work the muscles around your waist helping you get rid of excess fat. 119018413

Trunk twists

This is an easy one because all you do is stand up straight with your feet spread a little. Twist your trunk to the right and punch the air, letting your left arm cross in front of your body. Then twist to the left and punch with your right arm. Do about 25 reps per side. 105027941

Running will work your legs and your gluts, which will help make your waist small and rid it of any extra flab. If you aren't used to running, start off slow and build up your endurance. Joining a running club to help you learn to jog properly may be a good idea. If you aren't into running you could try biking, which will tone your thighs too, not to mention making your rear end tight. 194847722

WaterImage: shutterstock.com

Drinking lots of water every day is a good way to get rid of love handles, because water is simply a healthier alternative to other beverages that will add fat where you don't want it. It will also help get rid of bloating. A healthy diet is also important – one filled with lean meats, vegetables and fruits. Saturated fats and trans fats are not a good idea because bad foods will go straight to the hips – not good news for love handles. Remember to control your portions so you don't eat too much at once. This will help you start trimming your hips. It's better to eat several small meals and snacks throughout the day, rather than three big meals. And try not to eat while working or watching TV because you're more likely to overeat. 139311575
