Sometimes we just want to feel better. Our bodies simply feel tired and sluggish and we find ourselves searching for the easy solution to help us get that healthy feeling. Sometimes the answer is with a simple cleanse. Celebrities swear by them and most of our friends have tried at least some type of cleanse to either detox their body, brighten their skin, lose weight or just feel better. But with so many options out there it's hard to figure out what is the right one for our body. Below is a list of some of the most popular super cleanses that have helped kick-start even the sluggish of bodies back into power mode. But it's important to note - not all cleanses work for everyone and some may be unhealthy for your body type so talk to a doctor before starting any type of cleanse.

 The Master Cleanse

This 10-day cleanse involves drinking six to 12 glasses of a drink made up of maple syrup, lemon juice and cayenne pepper every day along with a herbal detox tea. It is believed this cleanse will rid your body of nasty toxins and help you lose weight. Some believe you can also start and finish the cleanse by eating fruits and vegetables while drinking juices and broths.

The Candida Cleanse

This cleanse promises to help with an overgrowth of yeast and fungus in your body. And there are two programs to choose from – a simple seven to 14 day diet that sees you eat only steamed or raw vegetables and a daily detox drink. The other option is a colon cleanse program, which is a three to seven day plan where you take in only detox drinks and vegetable broths.

Oz's 48-Hour Cleanse

This cleanse focuses on cleaning out the kidneys, colon and liver by combining juices and healthy meals such as quinoa with prunes and fruit smoothes. Instead of drinking juice, Dr. Oz suggests you eat raw vegetables. It's also suggested you drink Dandelion tea and take Epsom salt baths.

Colon Cleanse

Our colons take digested food from our stomachs, pull the nutrients out and excrete waste. So they have a pretty important job. You can do this cleanse two ways. One is by taking supplements, teas and laxatives that push out all the toxins from your colon. The other is colon irrigation, which involves pumping water up through your rectum by a colon therapist and then flushing out the water and toxins.

Liver Cleanse

Our livers are what rid our bodies of unwanted toxins so it's important to keep them healthy. To help your liver function properly you must avoid alcohol and eat and drink clean. Skip foods and beverages that contain high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, additives, hormones, preservatives or artificial colours and eat free-range or organic when possible. Cruciferous vegetables such as brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, kale and cabbage are all good foods for eliminating toxins. Get rid of salt and make sure you exercise.

Blueprint Cleanse

This is a celebrity favourite and comes as a pre-packaged juice cleanse where you are sent six bottles of vegan juices made from fruits, vegetables and spices. You drink the juices – nothing else – for about three days to two weeks depending on your body.

Green Smoothie Cleanse

There are lots of smoothie cleanses you could try including the Green Smoothie Cleanse. This can be done as a full cleanse where you consume three smoothies, snacks and water or tea for 10 days. This will likely give you the most health and weight-loss benefits, with an estimated weight loss between 10 and fifteen pounds. The modified cleanse will see you consume two smoothies for breakfast and lunch, one healthy meal for dinner and snacks and water or tea for 10 days. The smoothie drinks consist of raw ingredients such as green leafy vegetables, fruits and water.

Post-Weekend Detox Meal Plan

While this may not be an actual cleanse it is a good way to detox after a weekend of partying. For this plan you have to remember that fluids are your friend, since party food and drinks usually include extra salt, sugar and alcohol, which can all dehydrate your body. So start your Monday with a tall glass of water or warm cup of tea and then make sure you drink throughout the day to flush out the toxins from the weekend. Eat three meals of nutrient-dense foods that are low in calories but high in vitamins and minerals. Make your afternoon snack a green drink powder mixed in water or a smoothie that includes things like sea vegetables, probiotics, grasses and enzymes. Take a multi-vitamin and, with every meal, take a 1,000-milligram omega-3 supplement to help reduce the inflammation caused by poor eating.
